Mixed Media Butterfly Slimline Card | SSS Beautiful Butterflies

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

Hello Everyone Thank you so much for joining me for this Mixed Media card!! I know this is a bit out of my norm but please bear with me and let's jump in!!

To start I cut down my card stock, my slimline base is 7 x 8.5 inches scored at 3.5 inches, my kraft panel is 1/8th of an inch smaller than my base, and my panel is 1/8th of an inch smaller than my kraft panel.

I started out spraying some Tumbled Glass and Spun Sugar Oxide Spray onto my glass mat and smooching my paper into the ink, then set that aside to dry. Using my Mini Misti I stamped out 3 butterflies from the Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Butterflies stamp set in VersaMark Onyx Black ink and heat embossed them with Brutus Monroe's Icicle embossing powder. I used Distress oxide inks in the colours Worn Lipstick, Cracked Pistachio, and Broken China to watercolour my butterflies, then fussy cut them out.

Once my panel was dry I used a stencil from the Hero Arts planner stencil pair and some Tim Holtz Texture paste and added that to the centre of my panel. Once that was dry I used the Archival Black Soot ink mini cube and a stamp from Stampers Anonymous Reflections set to add some more interest to my background. I also found a piece of gauze in my stash, cut it down and coloured it with Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide spray and left it to dry.

I had a piece of Tonic golden waves embossed paper in my stash and used the backside for the black colour to ground my images. I also used my Tim Holtz distress tool to distress my panel after it was all dry to add some extra texture. Once my Gauze was dry I rolled it up and tied the brown twine in 3 places as a base for where my butterflies would sit, then used Nuvo Deluxe glue to adhere down the gauze right over where the twine was tied to keep it from untieing and attached my butterflies.

I then attached the panel to the matte and the matte down to the card base with my Nuvo Deluxe glue. I added splashes of Tumbled Glass, Spun Sugar, Frayed Burlap, and Black Soot by using the spray nozzle in the bottles of Distress Oxide Sprays over the whole card.

If you want a more in-depth look at how I made this card please check out the step by step video below, there's also a full supplies list below the video if you are curious about any of the products I used. Thank you so much for stopping by and I cannot wait until next time!!
