Watercolour Old Books ATC | Deep Red old books border stamp

Hello everyone, and thank you so much for stopping by. With the world as it is at the moment, I really wanted to sit down and create something a bit different than my usual style and something that would help with the overwhelming feeling I have currently.


So I took the Deep Red old books border stamp and made it the focal point on an ATC. This is going to be a very quick and simple tutorial as I mostly just sat down and played with different colours in an attempt to make the books look old.


To start, I used my anti-static powder tool then stamped my image on Canson cold press watercolour paper in Versamark ink, I used my Mini Misti for this so I could stamp a few times. I covered that in Brutus Monroe's Gilded Gold embossing powder and heated it with my Wagner heat tool until it was smooth and melted.


I wanted to use my Distress Inks and Tim Holtz watercolour brush as it has a wonderfully fine tip to colour in my image. I also used my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat, as a pallet and to paint on top of. I started with Old Paper and Antique Linen Distress Inks to colour in where the pages of the books are. While that dried, I took Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs, and Walnut Stain Distress Inks to colour in the spines of the books trying to create a worn feeling. I didn't feel as though I was getting enough variation in my browns so I also brought in Fired Brick and Tattered Rose Distress Inks to add a bit more wow to the colours. Once I was happy with those colours, I let it dry and brought in some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to create a pop of colour around the books.
