Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining me for week 3 of the advent matchbox calendar!! This week I really wanted to make something whimsical so I went for this really fun spinning star design, Let's jump right in!!
I ended up using the same white Heavy stock as I did last week because I thought these would look really pretty with a white base. I wont go into the box building itself in this post as I talk about it and show it in week 1's post and video which you can find here. I am only going to focus on how I decorated this set of boxes. I brought out a beautiful pattern paper from my stash by Whimsy Stamps and cut it down in the dimensions of the boxes, which are 2 5/8 X 1 3/4 X 1/2 inch atleast that is the closest measurment I have gotten ... it does depend a bit on how you constructed the boxes so that might fluctuate a small bit. I left the top flap of the boxes flat so that I was able to cut the hole in both the patten paper and the part that holds the box and make sure they lined up perfectly.
I then cut the numbers, scalloped frame, and the box liner out of some white glitter cardstock. I brought in the smalled star from the Christmas 2021 Vault collection and cut it out of some Meallic Jewel Kraft stock twice so I would be able to have a star on both sides. Once I gave dimension to both stars I adhered a piece of white thread with a 1/8th inch score tape to both stars so that I would be able to have the star spin in the middle of my matchbox's hole. I then used some 1/4 inch scor-tape to secure the thread on the top of the box and used some liquid glue to adhere down the pattern paper on top of the thread and trimmer off the access. I adhered the sides of the top parts to create the part that holds the drawer, I then poked a hole into the drawer part so that I could add the hitch fastner making it easier to slide the drawer out.
After adhereing the rest of the pattern paper and the scalloped frame, I layered up the number for some added dimension. Once out of the white glitter cardstock on top and two layers of the white heavy stock to add some weight to the numbers. I couldn't help myself and had to add some gems on the matchbox as well, so I brought in three Glacier Jewels from Pink Fresh Studio to finish off the design.
I hope I explained that well enough.. if not or you want a more in-depth look at how I created these boxes please check out the video below where I have a step by step tutorial, I also have a full supplies list below the video in case you would like to know exaclty what I used. Thank you so much for stopping by and I cannot wait to see you again soon!!
