How to Create a Whimsical Mixed Media Skull and Moth Halloween Card: Step-by-Step Tutorial

Thank you so much for joining me for this How to Create a Whimsical Mixed Media Skull and Moth Halloween Card: Step-by-Step Tutorial, Let's jump right in.

I started by cutting down my cardstock, I used an A2-sized base which is 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inches. The black matte was cut down to 1/8th of an inch smaller than the A2 base and the watercolour cardstock was cut down to 1/4 of an inch smaller than the A2 base. Next, I started working on the background, I used Pumice Stone and Old Paper Oxide inks to add some colour to the background, working in layers until I was happy with how it looked.

Then I stamped the skull and heat embossed it for added texture, I also stamped and cut out a mask of the skull so I would be able to work on the background without adding anything on top of the skull. I added some paste through a stencil on areas of the panel and once that was dry I also added some hickory smoke distress ink around the skull to create a shadow.

Next, I stamped out six moths in six colours of Distress Oxide ink in Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean, and Wilted Violet. I then added their perspective colours of Distress glaze on top and heat set them. I fussy cut each moth out to add to the skull later. I also die-cut two layers of black cardstock and one layer of black glitter cardstock for the sentiment.

All that's left is to build the cards, I used a mix of liquid glue and foam tape to adhere everything, now obviously everything was done twice as I was making two cards. I am really happy with how these cards turned out and cannot wait to hear what you think!!
