Multicoloured Butterfly ATC | Brutus Monroe Stamp of the month club April 2020

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

Hello everyone and thank you so much for stopping by. This week I have a simple Multicoloured Butterfly ATC featuring Brutus Monroe's stamp of the month club stamp. Let's jump right in.

To start I picked out a few of my favourite Distress Oxide Ink colours Wilted Violet, Mermaid Lagoon, Squeezed Lemonade and Picked Raspberry and pressed them down on the non-stick mat that comes with the Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat. This allows the colour to beat up on top of the surface rather than running together as it would if I had used just the glass part of the mat.

I grabbed two pieces of Cason 140lb cold press watercolour paper pre-cut to 2.5 x 3.5 inches which is a standard ATC size and pressed them into the colour until I was happy with my first layer, remembering to dry each layer in between as to not have the colours blend and possibly create mud. Once I built up a background that I liked I pulled out my Mini Misti, treated my cardstock with an anti-static powder bag and stamped the two butterfly images with Versa Mark ink a sticky clear ink and coated that in Brutus Monroe Alabaster white embossing powder, heat setting it until smooth and melted. I added a second stamp of the in profile butterfly to the lower-left corner to round out my composition, as I like the look of three images better than two, added the embossing powder and heat set it.

I then used the same four colours of Distress Oxide Ink to colour inside the image to create bolder colours within the butterflies bodies. Once everything was dry I took some Nuvo Crystal drops in the colour Mountain Dew and placed a few around the design. I walked away from my cards and the next day when I looked at them I felt they had something missing, so I decided to add some splashes of white paint. I used some watered down Winson and Newton White Gouache on an acrylic block and a paintbrush to flick the gouache on to my ATC's.

Thank you so much for stopping by everyone and I cannot wait to see you next week with a creation. There's a full video tutorial down below as well as a full supplies list under that. I look forward to seeing you again next Monday.
